Find your bearings
Start with where you will receive care
A Cincinnati search can turn up care across a whole region. Bring the question back to where you will actually be when the visit happens.
Choose the state for the visit
The region crosses state lines
Census data checked in October 2026 places the Cincinnati metro area in Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana. Keep that regional name separate from the state where you receive care.
The Ohio rules described here do not extend to the Kentucky or Indiana parts of that region. If your visit is across the state line, ask which state rules and licence apply there.
Your location sets the licence question
As of September 2026, Ohio’s online-care rule requires checking the patient’s identity and physical location in Ohio. For a new patient, the clinician must also give their name and the type of active Ohio licence they hold.
Write down that name. Use it for the licence search. If travel changes where you will sit for the appointment, raise that before the visit.

A narrow follow-up exception exists
As of September 2026, a doctor outside Ohio who treated you in that other state may give follow-up care in Ohio for the same condition for up to a year. That exception does not let the doctor begin treating a new Ohio patient online.
If the licence answer is unclear, ask what allows that person to provide care in the state you will be in during the visit. Get the answer in writing. Keep it with your visit notes.
